late night poetry

22.12.10 -miercoles-

Tonight is a night of poetry
of soft words and sad songs
Tangos and yearnings.

Tonight is a night of restlessness
of guitar pickings
and tunes without harmony.

Tonight is a night of moving thoughts,
twisting in circles around memories
of you & me & city skies.

Tonight is a night of poetry
of glowing stars, far away
of whispers, and waves upon the sand.

*****
IT'S FUNNY HOW THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS I FIGHT TO AVOID RE-LEARNING, RE-ADJUSTING TO, RE-DOING. I STILL WRITE THE DATE DAY FIRST--SOMETIMES BECAUSE I FORGET, SOMETIMES BECAUSE IT MAKES MORE SENSE, AND SOMETIMES BECAUSE IT'S A LITTLE THING THAT REMINDS ME OF WHERE I USED TO BE, A PLACE I USED TO LIVE.

I STILL LAUGH WHEN I CAN'T THINK OF AN ENGLISH WORD. EVEN BETTER WHEN I USE THE TRANSLATION OF THE SPANISH WORD IN A SITUATION WHERE IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. I DO IT IN ESPANGLISH ALL THE TIME--IT'S FUNNY--BUT ACCIDENTS ARE A DIFFERENT LEVEL.

I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE. STILL HAVEN'T "GROWN UP" AND DON'T KNOW HOW. THINGS ARE SIMPLE, THINGS ARE DUMB. THINGS ARE COMPLICATED, AND IMPOSSIBLE TO FIGURE OUT. I GO FORWARD IN TIME, MOVE BACKWARD IN MY HEAD, AND MY HEART SKIPS ALL AROUND.

I MIGHT SOMEDAY STRAIGHTEN OUT MY HEAD...BUT THE HEART WILL KEEP BEATING TO THE SOUND OF ITS OWN BONES...

comics for you :)

Okay, disclaimer, I spent VERY little time on this, particularly the drawing part... but since I know you've been losing sleep ever since I mentioned them but couldn't put them up, here you go: rest well, tonight.

side note: ahem, bottom note: I had a job interview and so started home later than I'd hoped (but for a good reason!) so it was way past supper time when I got in. Mom did greet me with a hug at the door, but instead of delicious food I saw that the dogs had killed a ringtail. :/ sad. they are the cutest ever. Also I have never seen one--live. Thanks, dogs. I guess you're good at keeping "rodents" away...

p.s. my camera is not broken. I was kind of hoping it was, so that I could get a newer, more awesome one. However, since I have yet to pay off my enormous dental bill, get some medical insurance, pay car insurance, etc...I guess it's probably good the camera will last me a bit longer...

p.p.s. sorry I just turned this "I'm actually really lucky, there are a lot of people out there struggling just to get meals" life lesson into a complaint about being "poor" d'oh!

no comic for you :/

Inspired by some webcomics I read, and a conversation with a friend regarding my present employment situation, I drew some quick, sketchy little comics to illustrate some of my thoughts on the whole affair. Perhaps my dear blog followers would like to see this, I thought. Not having a scanner, presently, I decided to just take a digital picture, upload it, and pass it on.

BUT, my camera is not le working right now. Perhaps it is, in it's old age, having lived a long and well-traveled life, finally kicking some digital, metaphorical bucket and shan't be revived. (Rats! foiled again!) (New item to the Christmas list*?) Or, perhaps I just have a set of bad batteries? I shall change them. Hm.. Or I have two sets of bad batteries. Possible, possible.

Following this discovery, I decided that I would take some low-quality pictures (for some low-quality comics) with my fancy new phone with a camera in it, and upload from there. I did take the pictures, but the uploading is not possible without installing a driver. No problem, right? you just type in the model number and "driver" into google and some dear soul will have it all ready for you. Not so much. Couldn't find it. Did, however, find an intelligence stating that driver kits could be purchased through Verizon's X or Y program. What. Forget it. Modern technology/sneaky marketing strikes again!

Perhaps upon my return home (maƱana? next day? depends a bit on weather) I shall endeavor once again to treat you, my dear readers, with my humble attempt at picture story-telling. In the meantime, stay warm, drink lots of hot-liquids, and do some exercise.

*Dear Papa, should this be the case, and I be in the market for a new digital camera (either by gift or by awaiting an employment opportunity and then first paying off various loans) I do not particularly wish to receive a random ebay purchase or your old camera. I would like to put some serious thought into my next digital investment and need some time to do the appropriate research. If, however, you should have any interest in advertising my guitar amp, I would be more than pleased...

jumping off trucks

Non-spoiler alert: That title is probably way more exciting than this entry is going to be. Sorry.

So last week, in order to avoid my semi-daily run, which takes quite an impressive amount of motivation on my part, I decided to go for a little hikey-hike. Why not? So many beautiful options at a hop or a skip away. Or jump, which is what I decided to to start off my Walk. Unfortunately, using the 10 second timer to capture your magnificent jump off your car is somewhat more difficult than I anticipated. It took me six tries before I got this, which I deemed Good Enough:

After rearranging all my other attmepts, however, I decided that a kind of fun collage could be made, which I will here attach, for your viewing pleasure.

And yes, in case you were wondering, I am wearing a cowboy hat, and yes, I think your tractor's sexy.*

I also took some leaf pictures and sky pictures and life+sky pictures. The sky was very blue...And here is a nice little slightly-enhanced (a phrase which here means, "digitally saturized") picture of some of those leaves.

And here some trees+sky. The color contrast was spectacular.

And then I ran into snow, a few miles up the trail, and promptly turned around. (Are you surprised?)

So there you have it, my Walk in pictures. I was hoping to see some Wild Animals, but alas, a squirrel near the trail head was my only sighting. Perhaps there were none around, or I am too loud and scared them away, or, perhaaaps...they were there, and saw me, but I never saw them...dundundun.

*If that was not funny to you/you didn't understand it, be proud.
